Mountain Museum at Ratopahiro, Pokhara has tallied 2 million tourists’ visit in a time frame of 15 years since establishment.
Established back in 2003 AD, the museum attracted a total number of 2008862 specatators collecting a total revenue of Rs. 176103918. According to Rishi Ram Poudel, Officer of Museum, the revenue is funded at Nepal Moutaineering Association.
Poudel informed that a total of 872822 students visited the museum which generated a total revenue of Rs. 28965713 while revenue from 637664 Nepali visitors accumulated to amount of Rs. 42336775. Similarly 152509 visitors from SAARC countries and 232917 visitors from third countries entered the museum generating revenues of Rs. 23135250 and Rs. 81265400 respectively.
Last year museum welcomed 276254 visitors collecting 27888300 rupees revenue. Poudel also informed that 100643 spectators visited the museum in current fiscal year generating a total revenue of 14056890 rupees in the first 5 months of current fiscal year 2075/76.
The entrance fee was increased from Rs 40 to Rs 50 for students from this fiscal year. Similarly entrance fee was increased to Rs 100 for Nepali citizens and 250 for visitors from SAARC countries. Visitors from other foreign countries have to pay Rs. 500 which is an icrement of Rs. 100 than previous fee. Museum is currently employing 32 people including 10 security guards.
Bal Bahadur Rai, Head of Museum said that the museum still has not been able to attract spectators as per expectation. Rai claimed that the museum that occupies a land area of 6.5 ropanies with a garden expanding in about 100 ropanis could be one of the largest museum in entire Asia. The entrance fees to enter the garden only is Rs. 30.
