After a decade long hiatus, Kahun Danda, a possible tourism destination with huge prospects, is ready to host 3rd edition of Kahun Dharahara Festival.
Situated at just 7 Km distance from Mahendrapool of Pokhara, Kahun Danda, however has not been able to mark its presence in tourism sector as per its prospects. Due to lack of promotion, slow infrastructural development, inattention from tourism related personnel and often overshadowed by other hill stations around Pokhara, Kahun Danda has long awaited for a chance to express.
This time around, Janakalyan Club, organizer, and Fulbari Club, co-organizer of the Kahun Dharahara Festival have decided to step up and promote their locality themself with the help of festival. The festival is set to be celebrated from December 14 to December 24.
Speaking in the press meet organized at festival venue Kahun Danda, Mohan Prasad Bastola, chairman of Ward-11, Pokhara Metro, expressed his firm belief that the festival will help to promote the area significantly. He claimed that the mountain scenes and sight of Pokhara metro from Kahun Danda is second to none. He also requested the tourism entrepreneurs of Pokhara to include Kahun Danda mandatorily in their packages.
Dipak Prasad Acharya, coordinator of event informed that the festival will include 80 different stalls that will entertain spectators with food items, local agricultural products, tourism related products and info centres. He also informed that few stalls are yet to be booked. Emphasizing the importance of Festival for attracting spectators, Acharya added that the festival aims to promote tourism rather than making financial profits.
The festival will be sponsored NMB Bank and promoted by Pokhara Metro and Nepal Tourism Board. Festival will feature events like live musical concert, local art, craft and tradition display, child amusement park, cycling tournament and 8 km mountain running as well. Also national folk song competition, open Bhajan Chudka competition, open Ratyauli song competition and open poem reciting competition are set to be held.
The festival was previously organized in 2065 B.S which saw overall financial loss to the organizers. The road to Kahun Dharahara (festival venue) that was in poor condition then has been black topped at present. Kahun is situated at 1460 metre from sea level. The Kahun Dharahara, a could be heritage of the site, was constructed long ago in 2026 B.S in the initiative of then Zonal Justice Chief Nanda Bahadur Malla and Social Initiator Late Major. Bir Singh Gurung. Also Kahukot Deurali, a pilgirim site is located to east of Kahun Dharahara.
The organizers have expected a spectators turnout number of around 80,000. Also the festival will host homestay program for around 100 visitors.
