32 year old Pokhara stadium is getting a new life. Being one of the venue of 13th South Asian Games (SAG), the stadium was in extreme need of reconstruction after 2072 earthquake left it in pitiful state. The demolition of present parapit begun from Wednesday. A working committee was established by Western Regional Sports Development Committee(WRSDC) under chairmanship of Mr Bhim Sharma for reconstruction.
Khagaraj Poudel, chairman of WRSDC told that the reconstruction work will be completed within 10 months at an estimated cost of 1 billion and 330 millions rupees. Chairman Poudel added that a global tender was issued by National Sports Coucil and the tender process for reconstruction has reached to the final stage.
Rs 4.4 million is projected for the sole purpose of demolition of present infrastructure only. After destruction of present structure within one month, the reconstruction phase will immediately start by the company selected under global bidding.
Pokhara will be organising 6 sports event in 13th SAG which will include womens football as well.
