The Ministry of Forest and Environment has issued working modality to promote Ecotourism in potential community forest, which will help in both environment friendly tourism promotion as well as production of forest products .
The ‘Ecotourism Promotion Working Modality In Community Forest, 2075’ will contribute to conserve biodiversity in community forest and also help to operate green tourism by promoting social and cultural values of local people.
The Ministry has informed that the mechanism is issued with the joint aim of conservation of biodiversity, sustainable forest management and contribution to local and national prosperity.
Dr. Ram Prasad Lamsal, Director General of the Forest and Land Conservation Department said that the modality has been issued in the context of increasing dependence of local community on community forest as the source of employment and income generation. He said, “The procedures will help develop new tourist destinations within the country which will also promote ecotourism.”
The modality will help thousands of forest consumer groups of Nepal to establish an alternative source of revenue with income and employment opportunities as well as conservation of nature. At present, there are 22,266 community forest consumer groups in the country.
