Soft Launch Of ‘Visit Nepal 2020’ From Pokhara

Government has planned a soft launch of its optimistic “Visit Nepal Year 2020” program from Pokhara, the tourism hub of nation.

As per the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, the inauguration of Visit Nepal Year will be done on Chaitra 30 of 2075 in the eve of New Year 2076.

Dhanashyam Upadhyay, ministry spokesperson informed that a meeting of main organizer committee will be held on 27th Chaitra under the chairmanship of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the first round of program will be announced from Pokhara. He also informed that the Visit Nepal 2020 will begin formally once the necesaary preparations for the implementation of program concludes.

The Government has targeted to attract 2 million foreign tourists during Visit Nepal 2020. Provisions for the program are included in budget of 2075 and 76.

Earlier, Nepal celebrated ‘Visit Nepal-98’ in 1998 with the target of 500 thousands foreign tourists and in ‘Nepal Tourism Year’ in 2011 with the target of 1 million foreign tourists.

The program was deemed successful with a significant increase in number of tourists. The data from Nepal Tourism Board showd that almost 1 million tourist visited Nepal during 2017.

In 2018 alone, 1173072 foreign tourists visited Nepal. Also the latest statistics from Department of Immigration shows that 216000 foreign tourists have visited Nepal in first two months of 2019.
