Construction work of Pokhara Regional International Airport (PRIA) has gained significant pace with completion of Runway.
“37% of construction work is finished with the completion of Runway”, Binesh Munakarmi, Project head of PRIA informed about the airport construction’s latest update. The 2500 metre long runway, built under Rigid Concrete Pavement system is first of its kind in Nepal. The 45 metre wide runway is three layers of concrete, 74 cm thick, and is expected to last at least 30 years, Munakarmi informed.
Construction of Apron where aircraft are parked has been completed as well. 90% of terminal building work has been completed and construction of other 13 buildings and 4 towers is also going at rapid pace, Krishna Prasad Chapagin, Public Relation Officer of Project informed. Chapagain added, construction of hangar, waste transfer, sewage station, central base station and special vehicle garage building are in final stage.
The airport that is being constructed by China CAMC is projected to complete by 2021 July,. However the company has expected to complete the construction by 2020. At present 300 nepali and 200 chinese are working at the project.
The ambitious project is deemed as a game changer in tourism industry of Pokhara and entire western region. In the context, Nepali government has announced 2020 as Visit Nepal Year.
