Tourism Pokhara. Pokhara street festival begins here in Lakeside from Thursday aiming to welcome english new year. Organised by REBAN, the five day show targets to serve tourists in Pokhara celebrating new year with food festival, musical events and cultural shows.
Cultural program from all seven provinces as well as neighbouring countries India and China are going to be a part of the festival. Ethnic groups from each seven states namely Satar, Maithali, Newar, Gurung, Tharu, Humleli and Deuda respectively from province 1 to 7 will be presenting their cultural shows.
The main stage at Komagane Park is going to host pop concert during nights. The business stalls are installed in the footpaths so the traffic movement is not disturbed throughout the 3.5km long festival street.
Orange exhibition and information on orange plantation is provided through 6 different stalls from Kaski, Tanahu, Gorkha, Syangja, Parbat and Lamjung districts each. Various other agricultural products are also brought in display.
Omprakash Baral, a stall keeper said that the oranges are being sold at Rs 100 per kg. He informed that his stall also featured capsicum and Korean cucumber. There will be 15 different stalls of orange in the festival.
A huge rally was organised comprising 44 different groups on the opening event of the festival. Pun Samaj Pokhara got the first position among the groups. Similarly Dudhpokhari Tamu Samaj and Tamu Plehu Samaj secured second and third position respectively. Fewa Dunga Byabasai got the consolation position. A three membered judge panel coordinated by Mr Menkaji Gurung, chairman of Himali Sanskritik Pariwar adjudged the winners. Earlier, the rally starting from Dihikopatan ended at the main stage in Komagane Park passing through Barahighat, Gaurighat and Fishtail gate.
Rabindra Adhikari, MP from Kaski district inaugurated the festival with a speech. He claimed that the tourism hub of nation will welcome 2 million tourist within 10 years. He further added that the focus should be on doubling the number of visitors in 5 years. In recent years, it has been assumed that almost 2 hundred thousands tourist visit Pokhara annually. Though no system of recording exact facts and figures have been established till date.
MP Adhikari also said that the festival should bring innovative and attracting packages to lure both internal as well as international tourists. He assured that Pokhara is the undoubted capital of province 4 and also that here are more possibilities and oppurtunities for economic development and prosperity. Roadway from Corala pass in north to Bhaisalotan pass in south along with new Pokhara International airport at Chauthe will open new gates of tourist arrival. Therefore long lasting vision is required for tourism promotion, Adhikari added.
In a seperate context, MP Adhikari complained that the political mumbojumbo has halted the new government formation and also urged the concerned authority to respect public mandate and open the road of economic progress by forming new government.
Similarly other elected MPs from Kaski Mr. Rajib Pahari, Mr. Krishna Thapa, Mr. Bindu Kumar Thapa, Mr. Ramji Baral Jiwan and Deepak Koirala Rupak emphasized on constructing tourism infrastructure, utilize agricultural potential and thus provide opportunities to youth for the economic progress and prosperity.
The opening ceremony was organised on the chairmanship of Mr. Chau Bahadur Gurung, chairman and coordinator of REBAN where Western Regional administer Laxman Aryal, Mr. Taranath Adhikari, CDO Kaski, Mr. Manbahadur GC, Pokhara Lekhnath Municipality Mayor, Mr Kedar Nath Sharma, chairman of Pokhara Tourism Board and others expressed their views.
